The Hussy – Dokks 7″

The Hussy are a two-piece trash band from Madison, Wisconsin. Last month they released a 7inch single: “Dokks” backed with “On the Cover”. I like this record! This band gets to the point, they make it, and they’re out. This entire single clocks in at under three minutes, making this the perfect record for today’s modern, drug-addled, hipster freak with an old, fucked-up turn table and a severely diminished attention span.

The first track “Dokks” begins with a blownout and heavily distorted acoustic-electric guitar. The song is extremely psychedelic with a slight twang of country and blues. The music is foreboding, mystic, and slightly sinister. Listening to this track conjures up images of hypnosis, voodoo, the taste of color, and smell of sound.

The B-side starts out heavy and abbrassive. While the first track sounded more like sixties blues-folk, the B-Side borrows more from seventies hard-rock, like The Stooges and Sabbath. The guitar starts without any introduction and bursts into a blaring heavy-metal riff. The drummer bangs on the drums at an incessant 4/4 beat that is both up-tempo, but droning at the same time.

This single was put out by the Italian punk label Goodbye Boozy Records. I’m excited to say that this is only the tip of the iceberg for The Hussy. They are set to release two more records later this month: An EP called Stab Me and a
full length LP entitled Weed Seizure.
